In this episode of Space Minds, Mike Gruss sits down with David Ariosto to discuss his new book, "Open Space." David talks about how some of the themes of the book — China, the moon and the booming commercial industry — are also some of the storylines that will dominate the headlines this year.

The trends that will dominate headlines this year

FROM THE CONVERSATION

Mike Gruss: Tell me a little bit about how you're thinking about some of your reporting [regarding the moon] and also what to expect this year.

David Ariosto: "When I started writing this, it was about five years ago. Which in the space economy is just an eternity, frankly, in terms of everything that's happened. But I got an opportunity to go down to Houston initially, and one of my first interviews was with Steve Altemus at Intuitive Machines that, as you know, had the first commercial lunar landing. And that program, part of the CLPS program, was sort of meant to lay a lot of the infrastructure for what Artemis would later rely upon. The idea of bringing forth a degree of sustainable infrastructure, telecoms, even mining operations and the initial foray into the lunar south."
