By Jeff Foust Isar Aerospace’s Spectrum rocket reached orbit Sept. 5 on the rocket’s second flight, the first successful orbital launch from Western Europe.
Spectrum lifted off at 4:12 p.m. Eastern from Andøya Spaceport in northern Norway. The rocket soared into twilight skies, its plume backlit by the sun as it climbed into the upper atmosphere.
Isar reported shortly after the second stage’s single engine shut down as planned that the rocket achieved an initial orbit of 180 by 500 kilometers. The company later announced that the five cubesat payloads had deployed after a second burn by the upper stage to circularize the orbit.

China’s human spaceflight agency appears to be reconfiguring the country’s robotic moon landing program after assuming overall authority for lunar missions. There could be changes made to the mission, possibly including alterations to payloads, timelines and more.
The Federal Communications Commission is poised to cement its longstanding practice of excluding constellations from environmental reviews, amid an unprecedented wave of proposals covering more than a million orbital data centers.
China’s telecommunications regulator has issued a roadmap to the end of the decade, building on a national five-year plan laid out in March. The plan calls for the integration of low and medium Earth orbit and geostationary orbit satellites with ground networks by 2030, while also endorsing research into space-based computing.

The U.S. Space Force has selected Lake Kickapoo, Texas, as the preferred location for the third and final site of the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability, a global radar network being built with Australia and the United Kingdom to monitor satellites and other objects in deep space.
U.S. Space Command says it has completed its first exercise focused on how military satellites could move more dynamically in orbit, using actual spacecraft across low, medium and geosynchronous orbits.
The U.S. Space Force is expanding its use of simulation technology to train guardians for complex satellite operations that are difficult to practice with spacecraft performing real missions, awarding contracts for training environments. |

toke Space Technologies, a company nearing the first flight of a fully reusable launch vehicle, has raised $1 billion in a Series E fundraising round to help accelerate work on a larger rocket. The company has now raised $2.3 billion to date.
The Exploration Company has raised $450 million in a Series C to help the European company complete work on a cargo spacecraft and lay the groundwork for a future large launch vehicle. |
