And a new speaker added to Golden Dome live event
| This week we published two special Space Minds podcast episodes.
The first with Heather Pringle, CEO of the Space Foundation on the status and size of the global space economy 💵 and then a bonus episode from the Ascend conference where we taped a live session with Robyn Gatens, NASA's Director for the International Space Station on navigating the shift to commercial space stations.
Look for another bonus episode or two next week from the Ascend conference.
And if the Golden Dome is something your company is interested in, then make sure to register (for free) to the first in our series of live virtual events on this topic.
During the summer we're trying some different formats for our Space Minds podcast. But fret not, we'll still be doing some great insightful shows from events like the Small Satellite conference and the World Space Business Week. But we'll mix in a few other pods and see what you think. You can send your feedback to spaceminds@spacenews.com.
If you're interested in sponsoring webinars or Space Minds, including at the World Space Business Week, don't hesitate to reach out to the sales team.

| The global space economy hits a new record
In this week's special episode of Space Minds coming to you a day early, host Mike Gruss speaks with Heather Pringle, CEO of the Space Foundation on the just released Space Report 2025 Q2 edition and the top three takeaways including the news that the global space economy hit a new record in 2024.
They discuss the remarkable 7.8% annual growth rate, the rise of commercial space, and how key developments like Golden Dome, launch frequency acceleration, and international investment are driving the industry forward.
On resiliency:
"The space ecosystem shows remarkable resiliency, even through perturbations as significant as COVID. And so the fact that we've seen this consistent growth year over year really does suggest that positive trend."

| Navigating the shift to commercial space stations
In this bonus edition of Space Minds, host David Ariosto speaks with Robyn Gatens, NASA's Director for the International Space Station, live at the AIAA Ascend conference in Las Vegas on the status of the International Space Station, its planned decommissioning by 2030 and the expected follow-on commercial space stations.
On the shift to commercial:
"We have a whole host of commercial service providers with hardware on station. They bring customers to we have commercial transportation providers and and so that last pieces is turning over the platform itself to be owned and operated by a commercial entity. So it's that shift in paradigm to bring industry along with us. They're now very good at doing things in low Earth orbit and building those kinds of capabilities. So it's time for government to step away and let them do that, and then, and then we go do the next hard thing, which is, you know, Moon to Mars, and while we maintain what we want to do in low Earth orbit, hopefully more cost effectively."
