Arianespace sees stronger demand for Ariane 6 amid shifting geopolitics

The successful second flight of Europe's Ariane 6 has become an opportunity for European officials to highlight the need for "strategic autonomy" in space given its changing relationship with the United States.


An Ariane 6 successfully launched the CSO-3 reconnaissance satellite for the French military March 6 on the second flight of the long-delayed rocket and the first mission operated by Arianespace. It was the first of five Ariane 6 launches Arianespace plans to conduct this year.


The official launch webcast featured, after the successful deployment of the satellite, congratulatory remarks by Philippe Baptiste, former head of the French space agency CNES. But the remarks quickly diverged from the launch itself into geopolitics. Read More

Viasat and Space42 co-invest in shared direct-to-device satellite prototype

Mobile satellite service operators Viasat and Space42 are exploring shared multi-orbit infrastructure to enhance and expand their direct-to-device connectivity services worldwide. The companies announced an agreement March 11 to collaborate on satellites that would pool their L- and S-band spectrum, enabling global roaming among regional mobile network operators for subscribers outside cellular coverage. To cope with ongoing supply-chain bottlenecks, space radar imaging company Capella Space maintains an inventory. Mitigating supply chain risks by maintaining extensive inventory requires capital. Momentus and Solstar to offer on-demand communications for Vigoride

Momentus announced an agreement March 11 to provide Vigoride space tug customers with on-demand connectivity through a partnership with Solstar Space. Momentus plans to perform the first on-orbit demonstration in early 2026 of Solstar's Deke Space Communicator, a narrowband data-relay transceiver designed to offer persistent communication links between satellites and payload operators on the ground as well as between spacecraft. Intelsat CEO reveals separate bet on Lynk Global amid SES merger

Merging satellite operators SES and Intelsat independently invested in direct-to-device venture Lynk Global without knowing about the other's decision. The Navy is worried about evolving threats to space, from cyber to lasers and jammers

Relativity names Eric Schmidt as CEO as it updates Terran R development

The former chief executive of Google is taking a stake in, and becoming chief executive of, Relativity Space as that launch vehicle company notes progress on its Terran R rocket. A company spokesperson confirmed March 10 that Eric Schmidt is the new chief executive of Relativity, a move that was announced internally earlier in the day at the company.
